Event Details from Facebook:

Uncle Bob’s Photo Zine Market is a one-day market showcasing regional photography zine-makers.

The zine, or self-published magazine, is an affordable distribution medium that is often overlooked in the larger photography world. Since zines are published using minimal personnel and less costly materials, they represent a more accessible way for new patrons to support local artists and begin their collecting journey.

Uncle Bob’s Photo Zine Market will take place at El Rincón Social, providing regional photographers with an opportunity to show their work in a space that will amplify their reach. We believe it is important to showcase the talent and dedication of regional photographers on a stage that is worthy of their skill and artistry.

San Anto Zine Fest - 10/5/19

Art by Shelby Criswell!

I was thrilled to be part of San Anto Zine Fest (SAZF) on October 5, 2019. The organizers are super bad ass women who have created the largest zine fest in San Antonio, TX.  Read my piece in Texas Monthly about the fest!

The beautiful brains behind SAZF: Natasha Hernadez, nurse, writer, and co-publisher of St. Sucia and Isabel Ann Castro, illustrator and co-publisher of St. Sucia; Suzy González, visual artist and co-publisher of Yes Ma’am Zine; Ana Ortiz, poet and co-publisher of La Liga Zine and Isabel Cepeda, visual/sound artist and co-publisher of La Liga Zine. Also, Emma Hernandez at SAPL helped make this fest happen.

This was my first time vending in San Antonio, TX. Also, I led a workshop at SAZF along with my sister who is an Art Therapist! Our session was titled “Beyond Treat Yo Self: Self-Care Zine Workshop” in the Latino Collection and Resource Center.

Thanks Reyes for inviting me to be a part of “Latinx Zinesters in Texas: A Reading and Discussion Featuring Reyes Ramirez, Claudia Delfina Cardona, Yeiry Guevara, and moderated by S Rodriguez.”

I sold copies of my zines and tiny zines at the event as well.

Vending at LAZF 2018

Vending at LAZF 2018

For the first time ever, I took my art to the West Coast. I was a proud vendor at the 7th Annual L.A. Zine Fest on May 27, 2018. It was a dream come true to share my work with the L.A. community. I met some of my favorite creators from around the country such as St. Sucia, Breena Nuñez Peralta, Frijolera Press, Brown and Proud Press who also vended at the festival. Check out the exhibitor list here. Plus, I gave a workshop on the creative process behind my zine "Vos Cipota" during the festival.

Big List of Thank You's:

  • LAZF organizers for believing in my work and letting me part of this monumental event
  • Everyone who stopped by my table and supported the festival
  • Workshop attendees: it was a joy to chat with you and share insights
  • My sister and Suzy for their eternal support

About The Event:

This year's Fest will feature 200 zinesters, writers, illustrators, comix creators, photographers, and more—selling, trading and sharing their work, and celebrating self-publishing and DIY culture in the community. Free admission!
